¡FIESTA DE HOCKEY LLEGA A SAN JUAN: UN FIN DE SEMANA HISTÓRICO PARA EL DEPORTE BORICUA!

1 DE JULIO, 2026 SAN JUAN, PR — San Juan está a punto de hacer historia en el hockey. La Puerto Rico Ice/Inline Hockey Association (PRIHA) trae su evento cumbre, la Fiesta de Hockey, a la isla del 6 al 8 de agosto. Esto es mucho más que un torneo; es una celebración que une a los atletas puertorriqueños a través de dos grandes pasiones: el amor por el hockey y el orgullo por Puerto Rico.

Tras el éxito masivo de los eventos con la diáspora en Estados Unidos—incluyendo la participación de 188 atletas en Chicago y más de 100 en Nueva York durante el fin de semana de la Parada Puertorriqueña—PRIHA finalmente trae el movimiento a casa para tres días de acción sin precedentes.

PRIHA invita a toda la comunidad a ser parte de la historia durante la Fiesta de Hockey con la siguiente programación:

• Jueves, 6 de agosto – Evaluaciones para la Liga Boricua: En la noche, se llevarán a cabo sesiones abiertas y evaluaciones para todos los atletas que se inscriban para la temporada de otoño de la Liga Boricua. ¡Todos están invitados a participar! (Detalles en juegahockey.com).

• Viernes, 7 de agosto – EL GRAN CHOQUE: PRIHA presentará un histórico juego de exhibición donde los mejores atletas de la Selección Nacional de Puerto Rico se enfrentarán cara a cara en la isla. • Sábado, 8 de agosto – Primer Torneo de NHL Street en Latinoamérica: El Parque Barbosa en San Juan será sede oficial del primer torneo de NHL Street en toda América Latina. El formulario de inscripción ya está disponible en juegahockey.com.

Scott Vargas, Presidente de PRIHA, destacó que este evento es un logro por el cual la organización ha trabajado durante años.

"Traer este evento a San Juan logra uno de nuestros objetivos a largo plazo de conectar a la diáspora nuevamente con la isla. Esto llega luego de que pudimos abrir la primera pista dedicada de inline y lanzar la primera liga de inline hockey, la Liga Boricua, a principios de este año. El hockey en Puerto Rico nunca ha estado en un nivel tan alto y estamos sumamente orgullosos de ser los pioneros en Latinoamérica al ser la sede de este torneo de NHL Street."

Boo Nieves, el primer puertorriqueño conocido en llegar a la National Hockey League (NHL) y quien compitió para los New York Rangers, añadió:

“Dale a un niño un palo de hockey y una calle, y verás la misma garra, trabajo en equipo y alegría que construyó este deporte en todas partes. El hockey le enseña a los niños a trabajar duro y a competir. Eso es lo que PRIHA trae a San Juan: una oportunidad para que Puerto Rico demuestre su talento, y para que los que nunca han jugado se enamoren del juego. San Juan es la prueba de que esta isla puede ser sede de hockey ahora, y es solo el comienzo de lo que viene. Esta no será la última ciudad de Latinoamérica en unirse a esa historia."

Sobre la Puerto Rico Ice Hockey Association (PRIHA): 

Fundada en el 2020, PRIHA es el único ente rector del hockey sobre hielo, inline y ball/street/dek/floor en Puerto Rico. PRIHA es un miembro orgulloso del Comité Olímpico de Puerto Rico a través de la Federación Puertorriqueña de Atletas Invernales, la International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), y World Skate a través de la Federación Nacional de Patinaje de Puerto Rico. 

La Asociación cuenta con más de 650 atletas-miembros de todas las edades y niveles de habilidad. Las Selecciones Nacionales de Hockey sobre Hielo de Puerto Rico han conquistado un total de seis campeonatos.

FIESTA DE HOCKEY ARRIVES IN SAN JUAN: A HISTORIC WEEKEND FOR PUERTO RICAN SPORTS

JULY 1, 2026 SAN JUAN, PR — San Juan is about to make hockey history. The Puerto Rico Ice/Inline Hockey Association (PRIHA) is bringing its flagship event, Fiesta de Hockey, to the island from August 6 to 8. This is more than just a tournament; it is a celebration uniting PRIHA athletes through their shared passions: a love for hockey and Puerto Rico.

Following massive, highly successful diaspora events across the United States—including a 188-athlete showcase in Chicago last May and a 100+ athlete event in New York coinciding with the National Puerto Rican Day Parade—PRIHA is officially bringing the movement home for three days of unprecedented action.

PRIHA invites all athletes, fans, and community members to join the action:

• Thursday, August 6 – Liga Boricua Evaluations: The weekend kicks off in the evening with open sessions and evaluations for athletes registering for the fall season of Liga Boricua. All athletes are welcome to sign up (Details at juegahockey.com).

• Friday, August 7 – EL GRAN CHOQUE: PRIHA will host an exclusive exhibition match featuring top athletes from the Puerto Rican National Team facing off against each other. Visit the top of juegahockey.com to secure free tickets. Tickets are limited, so reserve your spot now!

• Saturday, August 8 – The First NHL Street Tournament in Latin America: Parque Barbosa in San Juan will host the first-ever NHL Street tournament in Latin American history. The registration form is live at the top of juegahockey.com.

Scott Vargas, the President of PRIHA, noted that this event is a milestone that the organization has been working towards for years.

“Bringing this event to San Juan accomplishes one of our long-time goals of connecting the diaspora back with the island. This comes after we were able to open the first-ever dedicated inline rink and launch the first–ever inline hockey league, Liga Boricua, earlier this year. Hockey in Puerto Rico has never been at a higher level and we are extremely proud to be the ones leading the way for Latin America with the hosting of this NHL Street tournament."

Boo Nieves, who was the first known Puerto Rican to make it to the National Hockey League (NHL) and competed for the New York Rangers, added:

“Give a kid a stick and a street, and you'll see the same grit, teamwork, and joy that built this sport everywhere else. Hockey teaches kids hard work and how to compete. That's what PRIHA is bringing to San Juan: a chance for Puerto Rico to showcase its talent, and for those who've never played to fall in love with the game. San Juan is proof this island can host hockey now, and it's just the beginning of what's coming. This won't be the last city in Latin America to join that story.”

PRIHA was founded in 2020 and is the sole governing body for ice, inline and ball/street/dek/floor hockey in Puerto Rico. PRIHA is a proud member of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee through La Federacion Puertorriquena de Atletas Invernales, the International Ice Hockey Federation, and World Skate through the Federación Nacional de Patinaje de Puerto Rico.
