SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — AUGUST 2025
The Puerto Rico Ice Hockey Association announces its greatest achievement to date: The announcement of its first official inline hockey rink and inline hockey league, Liga Boricua. While it might seem like it pales in comparison to winning Championships, this is a critical component to the PRIHA Domestic Development Plan. Over the past three years, PRIHA has hosted clinics, drop-ins, and pick-up games in Puerto Ric,o but they have been in the format of 3v3 "pond hockey" on wheels. A critical improvement is having an enclosed facility with hockey board and netting and full-size nets that will allow players to experience a new level of development.
PRIHA Leadership states, "In the past our athletes have been able to learn to skate on inline skates, pass, turn, but they haven't even been given the opportunity to shoot the puck yet. While it might seem simple this is a massive step in the right direction. While the facility itself still won't be full-size we know it will give us the next level of needed development and commitment for our athletes and we believe we can really teach strong skills on the smaller surface of 85ft x 50ft that will translate nicely over to a full size rink. We hope to be competing in inline hockey tournaments as early as the first few months of 2026."
PRIHA will continue to release more information about the league, new clubs, and the facility over the coming weeks and has stated that "the players competing this fall and representing the nation have something even bigger to play for, they are truly inspiring the next!"
